Aurelia Visan

Legal Intern

Aurelia is an Intern at The Costas Network Law Center, LLC, as she is pursuing a Masters of Arts in Political Science with a Security Studies Track from the University of Akron. During her internship as Assistant to our Immigration Attorneys, Aurelia is responsible for: conducting research on country condition and on the socio-political climates in various countries, assisting in matters pending before the U.S. Department of Homeland Security and the U.S. Department of Justice, interviewing clients regarding potential human right violations, gathering pertinent information and documentation for preparation of asylum applications as well as family based immigration applications and providing general administrative assistance to our Immigration Attorneys.

Aurelia is an immigrant herself. She came to the United States in 2009 from Romania due to winning an academic scholarship. In 2009, an international company headquartered in Canton OH, offered 3 scholarships to the children of its employees located outside of the U.S. in order to give to 3 children the chance to study in the US. This company was operating in 27 countries, on 3 continents. 3 continents (Europe, South America and Asia), thus 3 scholarships. Aurelia was Europe’s winner.

In 2013, she graduated summa cum laude from the University of Akron with a degree of Bachelor of Business Administration, double major International Business and Marketing Management. After her graduation she needed a job in order to stay in the U.S. It was then when she realized the difficulties an immigrant faces in the American labor market. There were moments when she felt lost and discouraged, but overall she never lost hope and never gave up.

Aurelia is very happy to be interning with The Costas Network Law Center, LLC. She sees this internship as an opportunity to help other people, people with whom she strongly identifies. Aurelia is incredibly enthusiastic about interacting with people that have international background, especially with people from Latin America. This is a part of the world that has captured so much of her interest that she decided to teach herself Spanish. Consequently, Aurelia is fluent not only in English and Romanian, but also in Spanish. She also speaks conversational French which she studied while being in Romania. In a few words, Aurelia is proud and happy to say that she is an immigrant working for other immigrants.
